| The
Dance
Amazement and amusement will
result when your rabbit first chooses to dance for you.
The rabbit dance is a leaping, spinning, twisting, elevated
dance of pure joy. It is a celebration of life which is
rivaled only by dolphins cavorting in the wake of a passing
ship.
While each dancer has
differing levels of skill and style there are some similar
components:
- The leap. This
move requires the bun to leap high enough to remove all
feet from the ground. I have seen one bun clear
three feet in one leap.
- The spin. Here the
bun utilizes their momentum to spin anywhere from 180 to
360 degrees. This is not to be confused with the
roll.
- The roll. A
head over heels maneuver on the floor. Similar to a
child's somersault, this move is often used to startle
sleeping cats or people.
- The kick.
Here the back legs are kicked out to the side. A
punctuation to the leap.
- The flop.
A move used to conclude many routines. The bun
relaxes and splays across the floor.
Those humans who are lucky
enough to witness a bun dance know the power of this
exhibition of grace. I often feel that the buns laugh at
our inability to move our lumbering bodies with their ease and
skill. Some bun-ologists
call the dance the "binky." Most buns are
offended at the demeaning connotation of this label. |
